Dirk Leyers is a musician whose relationship with music has always been instinctive and informative. He began playing instruments at an early age, which opened a pathway to the innate communication that music represents for him. In the 1990s, he moved to Cologne, where he met Matias Aguayo and co-founded the influential group Closer Musik, leading to a highly productive period in Buenos Aires. After this chapter ended, Leyers established a solo project in Berlin and released the “Wellen” EP on Kompakt. He has collaborated with various artists, including Justus Köhncke and Eric D Clark, resulting in the release of “An Ounce of Memories” on Firm Records, as well as working with Nerk and Khan on the single “Fear My Fire” for V-Records. His collaboration with Köhncke, known as Kontrast, produced the 12” “Stammtisch der Verzweiflung” and the track “Grey Skies to Blue” featured on the Kompakt Total 7 compilation. Currently, Leyers collaborates closely with Nerk, one half of Toktok, both in the studio and as a live act, releasing tracks on Speicher, V-Records, MBF, Firm, and Klang Elektronik. His new 12” “Alma" is set to be released on Klang Elektronik in April 2008.
