Disjecta Membra is a New Zealand gothic band formed in 1993 by Michel Rowland as a songwriting and recording entity after the dissolution of his previous projects, Danse Macabre and Nösferätu. The band gained international exposure and became a significant platform for numerous New Zealand musicians. The core lineup from 1995 to 1997 consisted of Michel (guitar/vocals/programmes), a bassist, and a keyboards/guitars player. After disbanding in late 1997, they regrouped in 1998 with Michel as the only constant member. From 1998 to 2000, the lineup included Petra Škorić (guitar/keyboards), a bassist, and a drummer/sound-tech, along with guitarist Alex Mein Smith, who replaced a previous guitarist in 1999. This lineup, regarded by some as the classic version of the band, performed their last gig in April 2000. Since then, Disjecta Membra has performed infrequently, shifting from a traditional band format to a more fluid collective of musicians and collaborators. Only a few members have remained consistent since 2001, while others, including Jazz Murphy, occasionally participate in live performances. Since 2007, bassist Isobel White and 'stunt guitarists' Vivian Stewart and another guitarist have been key members. Michel has collaborated with these musicians since the mid-1990s, and there is significant overlap with other related projects. Various
