DJ Deeon, revered as the original master of ghetto dance music, began his journey on the south side of Chicago. He initially sold his DJ mixtapes in the parking lot where he lived and played house parties in the projects. These intimate gatherings inspired the unique sound he produced, which he described as "for the strippers, for the street." Despite the success of tracks like "Accelerate" on Dance Mania overseas, Deeon struggled to gain support from local Chicago clubs, referring to ghetto house as the "stepchild of Chicago house." Eventually, the overwhelming response to his music compelled clubs to embrace his records. His "techno with a ghetto edge" tracks gained recognition in clubs worldwide, particularly through his releases on Chicago's Dance Mania label, including hits like "3 Fine Hoes," "Work Dis MF," "Da Dick Suck," and "House O Matic." DJ Deeon passed away in July 2023.
