DJ DUCT is a unique turntablist and producer based in Japan, known for his innovative approach to DJing. Active in Tokyo’s hip hop and break beats scene since the late 1990s, he witnessed the emergence of turntablism and sought to create a distinctive style using just one turntable, diverging from the traditional two-turntable setup. His ‘less is more’ philosophy has shaped his performances, where he skillfully collages and reconstructs sounds live on stage using a turntable, DJ mixer, sampler, Kaoss-pads, and various effectors. This real-time editing, sampling, and scratching showcases his dedication to live performance, as all sounds are sourced directly from records without pre-recorded materials. DJ DUCT has successfully transitioned his skills into the studio, becoming a respected beat maker in Japan. He released his debut album, "Monkey’s Fist," through his own label THINKREC in 2005, followed by "Bindweed" in 2007 under Libyus Music, along with numerous remixes and DJ mixes. He has collaborated with various MCs and artists, including J-Live, Fat Jon (Five Deez), and Mike Ladd. In 2012, he was poised to share his music with a global audience.
