DJ ESP, originally known as DJ Groovespot, has carved out a significant place in the music scene of the Great North. His journey began with the "Disco Family Plan" tip sheets, which he produced from late 1991 to early 1993, featuring contributions from local DJs such as Craig Thran, Mr. E-tones, John Schultz, Kava Supreme, Kevin Cole, Tom Spiegel, Freddy Fresh, and others from the surrounding regions. Kevin Cole played a pivotal role in DJ ESP's early career, including his debut performance at First Avenue. Together, they created a series of Depth Probes that set the standard for the burgeoning rave scene in Minneapolis. As the music evolved to harder and faster tempos, DJ ESP embraced this change, ultimately developing the renowned 4D wall that became a hallmark of his performances. As his reputation grew, DJ ESP began performing across the Midwest, including cities like Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Louis. He was involved in the notorious Grave Rave in Milwaukee, which saw 962 attendees arrested, marking a significant moment in the history of the mid-America rave scene. After a brief hiatus in 1993, DJ ESP returned to the scene with his first release alongside Freddie Fresh on the now-defunct German label Adam and Eve, as well as the Earthworm Sings EP on EXperimental.
