DJ Olive, whose real name is Gregor Asch, is known as "the Audio Janitor." He was raised in various locations including Rhode Island, Nova Scotia, Trinidad, and Australia, and he received a BFA from SUNY Purchase in 1987. In 1990, after a period living in Greece, he relocated to Greenpoint, Brooklyn, where he became an active participant in the vibrant Williamsburg art scene, co-founding Lalalandia Entertainment Research Corporation. In 1994, he launched Multipolyomni.com and We™, while also producing ambient events across Brooklyn and Manhattan. That same year, he humorously coined the term "illbient." In 2000, DJ Olive established two record labels, Phonomena and theAgriculture, and he continues to design and produce segments for Multipolyomni's opera "Quark Soup." He is a member of Christian Marclay's turntable trio, which has performed at prestigious venues such as the Whitney Museum in New York, the Pompidou Centre in Paris, and the Philharmonia in Köln. Recently, he collaborated with Ikue Mori, Kim Gordon, and Yuka Honda on a project mixed by Jim O'Rourke for SYR. DJ Olive has been touring and recording with Uri Caine, contributing to Caine's Mahler record in 1997 and his interpretation of Bach's Goldberg Variations.
