**Bio: D.O. Misiani** Daniel Owino Misiani, popularly known as Mwalimu D.O. Misiani, was born on 22 February 1940 in Nyamagongo, a village in the Mara Region of Tanzania. He passed away on 17 May 2006. Misiani, recognized as the "King of History" in Kenya and "the grandfather of benga" in Tanzania, was a pioneering musician in the benga music genre. Despite his parents' opposition to his musical aspirations due to religious beliefs, he moved to Kenya in the 1960s to pursue a career in music. In Nairobi, he met the established musician Daudi Kabaka, who became his mentor. Misiani joined the Sokoto Band in 1961 and made his first recordings with the Victoria Boys in 1965. He later founded one of the most successful bands in Kenya, initially known as Luo Sweet Voice, which underwent name changes over the years. Misiani primarily sang in Dholuo and Swahili and released numerous recordings throughout his career, some of which gained international recognition. He faced imprisonment multiple times due to lyrics that were deemed politically critical. Tragically, he died in a road traffic accident in Kisumu at the age of 66, while still actively performing. Misiani was polygamous, married to two wives, Felista and Beatrice, and was a father to 14 children.
