Doc & Sal was a musical duo formed by Richard “Doc” Davilla, a San Antonio native, and Salvatore “Sal” Sabino, who both had their origins in the Air Force. They served aboard the USS Saratoga while stationed in the Mediterranean. After their military service, they collaborated to record the song “Laughing To Keep From Crying,” with Epstein as the engineer. They were signed to Dynamic Records, where they produced two singles with the Royal Jesters as their backing band, along with a member of the San Antonio Symphony contributing string arrangements. Although their recordings gained some local success, they did not achieve national recognition, leading to the duo's eventual disbandment.
