**Bio: Dom Mita** Dom Mita, born Nilton Luiz Ferreira on April 23, 1940, in Bauru, São Paulo, was a renowned samba soul singer and percussionist. His musical roots were influenced by his grandfather, a musician from Minas Gerais, and his father, an accordionist. At the age of nine, he attended a school run by monks where he studied orfeonic song and became the lead chorister. When he was thirteen, he moved to Rio de Janeiro. In Rio, Dom lived in the Morro de São João in Engenho Novo, immersing himself in the vibrant samba scene that surrounded him. This environment inspired him to take up percussion instruments and singing. Initially, he played pandeiro before transitioning to drums, performing various genres including samba, bolero, jazz, mambo, and cha-cha-chá. He began writing songs in 1962, encouraged by a fellow songwriter from the vocal group Os Golden Boys. During the late 1950s and early 1960s in Copacabana, Dom participated in jam sessions that were crucial for musical growth. He met influential musicians, including Edison, the drummer known for "samba no prato," and learned a great deal from him.
