Don Covay (March 24, 1938 – January 31, 2015) was an influential American R&B, rock and roll, blues, and soul singer and songwriter. Born in Orangeburg, South Carolina, he began his musical journey singing in his family's gospel quartet before briefly joining a doo-wop group. Covay played a significant role in the soul music explosion of the 1960s, both as a writer and performer. His first major hit was "Pony Time" in 1961, and he is also known for writing the hits "See-Saw" (co-written with another artist) and "Chain Of Fools."
