Don Drummond was a Jamaican trombonist born on March 12, 1934, in Kingston, Jamaica. He became a founding member of the Skatalites in 1964 and was known for his prolific contributions to the Ska genre, with at least 200 compositions to his name by 1965. In the Fall of 1965, his composition "Man In The Street" entered the Top 10 in the UK, and later in 1967, his adaptation of "The Guns of Navarone" also achieved a Top 10 hit. Drummond was regarded as one of the top trombonists in the world by his peers. However, his life was marred by mental health issues, and in January 1965, he killed his girlfriend, Anita 'Marguerita' Mahfood, for which he was convicted and remanded to Bellevue Asylum. Don Drummond passed away on May 6, 1969, in Kingston, Jamaica, at the age of 35, with his death presumed to be a suicide.
