Don Thompson, born on January 18, 1940, in Powell River, British Columbia, is a Canadian jazz multi-instrumentalist known for his proficiency in piano, bass, vibraphone, and drums. He is also a composer, arranger, and recording engineer. After taking childhood piano lessons, he began playing the string bass and vibraphone in his teens. Thompson is essentially self-taught on all the instruments he plays.
