Donald Height was a prolific musician based in New York during the early part of his career, spanning over 16 years. He primarily worked as a solo artist, using two different names, but also gained recognition as the lead singer of the legendary doo-wop group, the Hollywood Flames. Throughout his career, he was signed to several major labels, including King, ABC-Paramount, Jubilee, Old Town, RCA, Roulette, Shout, Avco, Bell, and Dakar. His singles achieved notable success in the US, leading to foreign releases in countries such as the UK, Canada, and South Africa. Two of his releases in the UK became anthems in the 60s mod and soul club scenes, and they found renewed success on the Northern Soul scene when re-released in the 70s. He also recorded a version of the popular 60s UK mod club song "She Blew A Good Thing." Donald collaborated with prominent industry figures, including Teddy Vann, Ralph Bailey, Horace Ott, Johnny Northern, Bert Berns, Garry Sherman, Thomas Glascoe, Eddie Jones, Robert Bateman, Alonzo Tucker, J.J. Jackson, and Joe Webb. In addition to his work as a singer and songwriter, he was a producer and operated several production companies and small record labels.
