Donga was a Brazilian guitar player and songwriter, born on April 5, 1890, in Rio de Janeiro, RJ. He is known for co-writing what some consider to be the first recorded samba in history, the 1916 song "Pelo Telefone." Donga passed away on August 25, 1974, in Rio de Janeiro, RJ. He was married, though the name of his spouse is not mentioned.
