Donny Benet is an Australian bassist and pop crooner based in Sydney, known for his unique blend of disco and modern sounds. He is the alter ego of Ben 'Donny' Waples and the son of renowned Italian accordionist Antonio Giacomelli Benet, who gained fame with disco hits in the 1970s. After eloping to Leichhardt, Antonio made Australia his home, where Donny was born. Growing up, Donny initially followed in his father's footsteps but shifted his focus at the age of 15 to the Moog synthesizer, realizing that disco accordion was no longer in vogue. He continued to play the accordion for elderly residents at Scalabrini Retirement Village before pursuing a career as a solo performer and aspiring television personality. Donny's new phase began in 2009 when he decided to create his debut album at the renowned DonnyLand Studios, motivated by the lack of interest in disco accordion and jazz bass talents. Equipped with a Drum Machine, Fender Rhodes, and a Moog Synthesizer, Donny has worked diligently to produce albums aimed at making him the most recognized disco artist of the twenty-first century. His gear includes electric bass, Moog, Prophet, SH-1000, Jupiter 6, Juno 106, DX-7, string synthesizer, Fender Rhodes, drum programming, hand claps, vocals, and spoken word.
