He was born on October 1, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, and passed away on January 13, 1979, in New York City at the age of 33. Rolling Stone magazine describes him as a legend of soul music. Among his most popular songs are "A Song for You," "The Ghetto," "Someday We'll All Be Free," "For All We Know," and several duets with soul singer including "Where Is the Love," "The Closer I Get to You," and "Back Together Again."
