Dorothy Berry (November 1, 1940 - December 20, 2019) was a talented musician and singer. At the age of 13, she and her siblings moved to Los Angeles, California, where she graduated from Jefferson High School in 1958. She continued her education at Compton Community College and formed her first female singing group that same year. During her time at Jefferson High, Dorothy was part of the a cappella choir and met recording artist Richard Berry, who was invited to visit the school by his former music teacher. Encouraged by her husband Richard, Dorothy pursued a career in music, releasing various records as a solo artist and providing backup vocals for numerous productions. In 1968, she began working with Brother Ray, contributing harmony vocals and recording as a solo artist for his Tangerine Records label. In 1971, she joined Ray's group, performing worldwide for over a decade. After 10 years of marriage, Dorothy and Richard amicably divorced but remained close friends until his passing in 1997. Following a tour in the Middle East, where she witnessed the devastating effects of war in Lebanon, Dorothy was inspired to write a song titled "The World Needs Peace." She collaborated with Richard to record the song, which was released as a 45 single.
