**Bio: Double Dee & Steinski** Double Dee & Steinski was a duo of hip-hop producers, consisting of Doug "Double Dee" DiFranco and Steven "Steinski" Stein. They gained recognition in the early 1980s for their innovative underground hip-hop sample-based collages known as the "Lessons." Although they did not achieve commercial hits, their work significantly influenced subsequent artists. In 1983, they entered a promotional contest held by a record label, remixing a single. DiFranco worked in a professional music studio, while Stein was a copy supervisor at Doyle Dane Bernbach. Despite being older than many of their peers in the hip-hop community, they were passionate about the genre, with Stein having extensive knowledge of hip-hop history. Their contest entry, "Lesson 1 – The Payoff Mix," featured an array of sampled material from early hip-hop, funk, disco, and various other sources, and was created in just 12 to 14 hours. It received critical acclaim and won first prize from a jury that included notable figures in music. They followed up with "Lesson 2 - The James Brown Mix" in 1984, which included samples from classic James Brown records, and collaborated with a CBS Records producer on "Taste So Good," built from snippets of sex-phone calls.
