Doye O'Dell was an American singer, musician, and actor born on November 22, 1912, in Gustine, Texas. He passed away on January 3, 2001, at the age of 88 in Northridge, California. Doye was married to an actress in 1955, though they later divorced. Growing up, his father was a cotton farmer, and the family eventually moved to Plainview, Texas. Doye's passion for music began when his uncle, Tom Gregory, a fiddle player, taught him how to play the fiddle. He started his career at radio station WDAG in Amarillo and eventually hosted his own radio show with NBC. Doye became a prolific recording artist and was a member of the Sons of the Pioneers. Later, he moved to Southern California and worked with KTLA, one of the country's first television stations, where his 'Western Varieties' TV show became a Friday night staple for many years. In addition to his music career, Doye appeared in films alongside notable actors such as Roy Rogers, Ronald Reagan, Jack Lemmon, and Ava Gardner. He also had roles in popular TV series during the late 1950s and early 1960s, including Maverick, Sugarfoot, and Empire, as well as in two Billy Wilder films, The Days of Wine and Roses and Irma La Douce.
