Dr. Dre, born on February 18, 1965, in Compton, California, is an American record producer, rapper, and entrepreneur. He is recognized as a pivotal figure in the popularization of West Coast G-funk, a rap music style known for its synthesizer-based sound and slow, heavy beats. During the late 1980s to 1990s, Dr. Dre was a member of influential groups, including N.W.A. In 1991, after leaving N.W.A., he co-founded Death Row Records with the controversial Suge Knight. Following the success of his 1992 album, The Chronic, he departed from Death Row in 1996 to establish his own label. Dr. Dre has produced albums for and guided the careers of numerous prominent rappers. In 2006, he co-founded Beats Electronics, which was acquired by Apple in 2014 for $3.2 billion. This deal positioned Dr. Dre as the second richest figure in the American hip-hop scene, with a reported net worth of $550 million according to Forbes Magazine.
