Dr. Dre, born on February 18, 1965, in Compton, California, is an influential American record producer, rapper, and entrepreneur. He played a pivotal role in popularizing West Coast G-funk, a rap music style known for its synthesizer-based sound and slow, heavy beats. In the 1980s and 1990s, he was a member of N.W.A. and other groups. After leaving N.W.A. in 1991, he co-founded Death Row Records with the controversial Suge Knight. In 1996, following the success of his 1992 album "The Chronic," he departed from Death Row and established his own label. Dr. Dre has produced albums for and guided the careers of numerous prominent rappers. In 2006, he and co-founder Jimmy Iovine launched Beats Electronics, which was acquired by Apple in 2014 for $3.2 billion. This acquisition positioned Dr. Dre as the second richest figure in the American hip-hop scene, with a net worth of $550 million, according to Forbes Magazine.
