**Dropkick Murphys Bio** Dropkick Murphys is an Oi! punk band from Boston, MA, formed in 1996 by Ken Casey (bass/vocals), Rick Barton (guitar), and Mike McColgan (vocals). The band is renowned for its Oi!/punk sound, frequent covers of Irish standards, and lyrics that often highlight unions and working-class ethics and concerns. In 1998, they signed to a label run by members of a connected band. After the release of their first LP, "Do Or Die," Mike McColgan left to pursue a career as a firefighter, with the split being amicable. He later returned to music, fronting another band. Al Barr replaced McColgan, and Rick Barton departed after the second album, "The Gang's All Here," to follow other interests. By the time of their next album, "Sing Loud, Sing Proud," the lineup had expanded to include Casey, Barr, longtime drummer Matt Kelly, two guitarists, a mandolin player, and a bagpipe player. In 2004, Dropkick Murphys recorded "Tessie," an old tune associated with the Boston Red Sox, which was featured in the movie "Fever Pitch."
