Duke Jordan was a prominent US jazz bop pianist born on April 1, 1922, in New York City, New York. He passed away on August 8, 2006, in Valby, Denmark. Jordan made his first major appearance as a sideman in 1941 and was recognized as one of the pioneers of bop music. He was a member of a classic quintet that included notable musicians during the famous Dial sessions in the late 1940s. In the early 1950s, he accompanied various artists, including jazz vocalist. In 1978, he migrated to Copenhagen, Denmark, where he was signed to a record label for many years. He was married to jazz vocalist from 1952 to 1962. As a composer, he is most famous for writing the bop standard "Jordu."
