Dumisani Abraham Maraire (1944 - 25 November 1999) was a prominent vocalist, composer, and performer of the mbira, a traditional instrument of the Shona ethnic group of Zimbabwe. Known as Dr. Abraham Dumisani Maraire, he was the principal importer of Shona musical culture into the United States during the 1970s and 80s. Until his passing, he continued to promote his culture globally from his base at the University of Zimbabwe in Harare, where he led the Department of African Languages and Literature. He was a husband and father.
