Durand Jones & The Indications is an American contemporary R&B and soul group formed in 2012 in Bloomington, Indiana, by the core songwriting trio of singer Durand Jones, singer/drummer Aaron Frazer, and guitarist Blake Rhein. The group is known for its dynamic sound, drawing inspiration from legendary artists like Jackie Wilson, Curtis Mayfield, and the Impressions. Their sophomore album, "American Love Call," showcases a blend of early '70s soul with a modern urgency, reflecting the current moment while incorporating strings and backing vocals. The band's self-titled debut album, released in 2016, was recorded for just $452.11, including a case of beer, and was the result of friendships formed at Indiana University. With a deep appreciation for various musical influences, Rhein describes their songwriting approach as similar to that of hip-hop producers, pulling from a diverse range of genres. Jones expresses his surprise at the band's success, attributing their journey to a higher calling to "move and groove."
