Earl Moseley was a talented saxophonist born on July 20, 1938, in Houston, Texas, and he passed away on May 24, 2021. After graduating from Jack Yates High School in Houston, he joined the Joy Boys Band, a popular rhythm and blues group in the area. Earl had the opportunity to perform with the Little Junior Parker Band at the first annual Chicago Blues Festival. He later formed his own band, The Rhythm Machine, which played jazz and pop music in Houston. Earl was a graduate of Texas Southern University, where he participated in the university band and orchestra. During his military service, he performed with the 24th Division Band while stationed in Germany. In addition to his musical career, Earl was a former teacher in the Houston Independent School District, and he and his wife served as Elders at Good News Church in Houston. In honor of his legacy, Texas State University annually awards the Earl Moseley Jr Memorial Endowed Scholarship.
