Eddie Hazel, born on April 10, 1950, in Brooklyn, NY, was a prominent guitarist known for his role as one of the original members of Parliament / Funkadelic in the early 1970s. At the age of 17, he had been a session player until he was encouraged to join the group by George Clinton and Billy Nelson. Hazel is recognized as one of the first lead guitarists to fuse hard rock with funk, paving the way for future artists. His involvement with the P.Funk collective diminished in the 1980s as the group shifted towards a more electro-funk sound, coupled with his struggles with drug issues. Eddie Hazel passed away on December 23, 1992, at the age of 42. He released one solo album with Warner Brothers in 1977 and had a posthumous CD released in 1994, along with unreleased material featured on several recordings. He was the son of an unnamed individual.
