Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis was a self-taught American jazz and rhythm & blues tenor saxophonist, born on March 2, 1922, in New York City, New York. He passed away on November 3, 1986, in Culver City, California. Throughout his career, Davis collaborated with several notable musicians and bands, including Cootie Williams from 1942 to 1944, Lucky Millinder, and Andy Kirk from 1945 to 1946. He also played with Louis Armstrong, Count Basie during various years (1952-1953, 1957, and 1964-1973), Shirley Scott from 1955 to 1960, Johnny Griffin, Harry "Sweets" Edison, and others, and led his own groups.
