Eddie Hazel, born on April 10, 1950, in Brooklyn, NY, was a prominent guitarist and one of the original members of Parliament / Funkadelic in the early 1970s. He began his career as a session player at the age of 17 before being encouraged to join the group by George Clinton and Billy Nelson. Hazel is recognized as one of the first lead guitarists to blend hard rock and funk fusion, paving the way for future artists. His involvement with the P-Funk collective diminished in the 1980s as the group shifted towards a more electro-funk style and he faced personal challenges, including drug issues. Eddie Hazel passed away on December 23, 1992, at the age of 42. He released one solo record with Warner Brothers in 1977, and a posthumous CD, along with unreleased material, was issued in 1994. He was the son of an unspecified individual.
