Edgar Froese was a German artist and electronic music pioneer, born on June 6, 1944, in Tilsit, East Prussia (now Sovetsk, Kaliningrad region, Russia). He passed away on January 20, 2015, in Vienna, Austria. Froese's father and some relatives were killed by the Nazi regime, prompting him and his mother to flee to Berlin after World War II. He began working at the age of 15 and was artistically gifted, eventually being accepted into an art school where he studied painting, graphics, and sculpturing. To support his studies, he worked as an author, actor, and creator of advertisements. Although he aspired to become a pianist, he learned to play the guitar and completed his studies in 1966. Froese began his musical career in 1965 with a short-lived rock group. After the group's disbanding in 1967, he co-founded a band that started performing live concerts in 1968. However, Froese canceled the group for a six-month hiatus in 1969 before reactivating it with new members. The band gained its first record contract in 1970, and their debut album was released that same year. They recorded four albums and were signed by a UK label in 1974.
