Eduardo Mateo (1940–1990) was a prominent Uruguayan singer, songwriter, guitarist, and arranger. He played a significant role in the evolution of modern Uruguayan music by blending beat, jazz, bossa nova, and local rhythms such as candombe, akin to the Brazilian Tropicalismo movement. His influence is noted by musicians like Academy Award winner Jorge Drexler. Numerous artists, including Fattoruso Trio, Jaime Roos, Sandra Mihanovich, Pedro Aznar, Milton Nascimento, Leon Gieco, Mio Matsuda, and Tomohiro Yahiro, have covered his songs.
