Edzayawa was a short-lived band formed by musicians from Ghana, known for their songs based on a 6/8 rhythm influenced by the music of the Ewe people from the South East of Ghana and West Togo. The band relocated to Lagos without instruments, where they met the son of Bobby Benson and had the opportunity to perform at The Caban Bamboo. After meeting Fela Kuti in his Kalakuta Republic and discussing their intention to blend traditional African rhythms with Western sounds, they were invited to perform at The Shrine before Fela’s Africa’70. This led to the recording of their unique and experimental LP in just 25 hours at E.M.I. Studio Lagos on May 1st and 2nd, 1973, under the production of Odion Iruoje. Despite the innovative nature of their album, it was poorly received, and the band's frustration ultimately led to their split after two years.
