Eero Koivistoinen (b. January 13, 1946) is a prominent jazz musician from Finland, primarily known for his work as a saxophonist, composer, arranger, and conductor. He studied saxophone and composition at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and at Berklee College of Music in Boston during the 1960s and 1970s. Koivistoinen released his debut solo album, Valtakunta, in 1968, which featured a blend of psychedelic rock, poetry, and modern jazz. His second album, Odysseus, originally released in 1969 and reissued in 2006 by Sähkö Recordings, showcased a more traditional post-bop style influenced by John Coltrane. In the 1970s, he explored jazz-rock and funk, recording his most recognized album, Wahoo!. In 1983, his album Picture In Three Colours featured notable musicians Jack DeJohnette and John Scofield. Since 1975, Koivistoinen has been a key member of the UMO big band and has recently recorded various sessions for the Ricky-Tick label, including work with The Five Corners Quintet.
