El Hadj M'hamed El Anka, born Mohamed Idir Aït Ouarab on May 20, 1907, in the Casbah of Algiers, was a pioneering master of Algerian Chaâbi music. He hailed from Freha, a town in the Kabyle region of Tizi Ouzou, Algeria. El Anka passed away on November 23, 1978. He is the father of Sid Ali Halo and Abdel Hadi Halo.
