Elias Diá Kimuezo, born Elias José Francisco on January 2, 1936, in the Marçal neighborhood of Luanda, Angola, is a renowned singer and musician. Orphaned at the age of 7, he moved to his grandmother's home in the Sambizanga neighborhood at 12, where he became fluent in his mother tongue, Kimbundo. His artistic journey began at 15 when he joined the "Turma do Margoso" as the main vocalist and bate-bate player. He later became a member of the "Os Kizombas" group, performing in the Malanjinho Room in Sambizanga. In 1969, he represented Angola at the Folkloric Festival of the Portuguese Provinces in Portugal with the Rebita group and the Marimbeiros de Duque de Bragança. His performances garnered critical acclaim, leading to the recording of two singles for the Valentim de Carvalho label, including "Mualunga," "Resurreição," "Muenhu Ua Muto," and "Zum-Zum," featuring notable artists like Bonga and Rui Mingas. The launch event at Cine-Restauração in Luanda marked the beginning of his rising fame, earning him the title of "Best Performer of the Angolan Song" from CITA-Angola.
