Elisabeth Waldo was an American violinist, composer, songwriter, conductor, and ethnomusicologist, born on June 18, 1918, in Tacoma, Washington. She was a scholar of pre-Colombian era music and an early adopter of Native American musical instruments among those trained in European classical music. Her innovative blending of ancient and contemporary styles of American music positions Waldo as a pioneer in the genre now known as Exotica.
