Elmer Bernstein was an American composer and conductor, born on April 4, 1922, in New York City, New York, USA. He was an Academy Award-winning artist whose career spanned over five decades, during which he composed more than 150 original film scores and scores for nearly 80 television productions. Bernstein's notable Hollywood works include "The Ten Commandments" (1956), "The Magnificent Seven" (1960), "The Great Escape" (1963), "Thoroughly Modern Millie" (1967, Academy Award), "Animal House" (1978), "The Blues Brothers" (1980), "Trading Places" (1984), and "Ghostbusters" (1984). He passed away on August 18, 2004, in Ojai, California, USA. Bernstein was the father of children from his second and third marriages and was friends with but unrelated to other prominent figures in the industry.
