Eloise Laws, born on November 6, 1949, in Houston, Texas, is the sister of renowned flutist, saxophonist, vocalist, and singer/songwriter Hubert Laws. She began her music career recording for Music Merchant, where she released singles like "Tighten Him Up" and "Love Factory" in 1972-1973. After Music Merchant folded, she signed with Invictus, which released several singles and her debut LP, 1977's Ain't It Good Feeling Good. Following the mismanagement of Invictus, she transitioned to ABC Records, releasing the album Eloise later that year. She collaborated with producers on her next album, 1980's Eloise Laws, released on Liberty, and followed it with All in Time for Capitol two years later. During this period, she also contributed to albums by various artists, including Harvey Mason, Aquarian Dream, Lee Oskar, and Ahmad Jamal, as well as several projects with her siblings. After a hiatus from solo work, she returned to music in the late '90s with the albums The Key (1999) and Secrets (2003) on her brother Hubert's Scepterstein label. In addition to her music career, Eloise Laws established herself in theater, co-writing and originating the lead role in the Tony-nominated production "It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues."
