Eloy is a German progressive rock band formed in Hannover in 1969. They derived their name from H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine," and their music often incorporates sci-fi elements, particularly in their mid-to-late 1970s concept albums. In their early days, Eloy played heavy rock, initially influenced by British bands and later incorporating influences from other genres, which contributed to their distinctive sound. Due to numerous line-up changes, Eloy became the project of frontman and evolved into essentially four different bands throughout their history. They went on to become one of the most internationally successful German progressive rock bands to emerge from the Krautrock era.
