Enchantment is a soul vocal quintet formed in 1966 in Detroit, Michigan. Initially managed by a local talent agency, they gained their first recording contract by winning a talent contest sponsored by WCHB radio in 1969. The group collaborated with Artists International, a talent development agency founded by manager Dick Scott, which helped them hone their craft through performances in various clubs. In 1976, Enchantment signed with Roadshow Records, led by industry veteran Sid Maurer, and released their self-titled debut album, which included hits like "Gloria" and "Sunshine." Their second album, Once Upon A Dream, released in 1977, featured the number one R&B hit "It's You That I Need" and marked their commercial peak. However, their third album, Journey to the Land Of... Enchantment, released in 1979, was less successful due to promotional issues. After Roadshow folded in 1980, Enchantment signed with RCA Records and released their fourth album, Soft Lights, Sweet Music, which was disappointing. They later signed with Columbia Records, releasing two more albums, Enchanted Lady (1982) and Utopia (1984), neither of which achieved significant chart success. Utopia remains their last album.
