England's Glory was a short-lived but significant band formed by Peter Perrett prior to the creation of The Only Ones. A Dylan enthusiast, Perrett had released an acoustic demo in the Spring of 1972. The lineup included talented bass player Harry Kakoulli, who later collaborated with Squeeze and recorded two albums, along with Jon Newey and David Clarke, who had previously played in an early seventies acid-rock group called They Bite. England's Glory was a regular attraction at underground clubs and student union gigs during 1970/71, supporting bands like Stone The Crows, T2, and Uriel. Jon Newey later worked for 'Sounds' and became the publisher of Tower Records' 'Top Magazine.'
