Enoch Light was an American classical violinist, bandleader, producer, and recording engineer, born on August 18, 1907, in Canton, Ohio, USA. He led his own dance band from the 1920s to the 1940s, touring Europe from 1928 to 1929 and making recordings in Paris. Light was head of a recording label in Harrison, New Jersey, and was involved with Waldorf, a budget record label sold exclusively in Woolworth stores from 1954 to 1959, alongside business partners Casper Pinsker and Dick Davemos. As A&R chief and vice-president of another label, he founded Command Records in 1959 and later established another label in 1966. His name appeared prominently on many albums as both a musician and producer, and he released numerous albums across various genres under different names during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Light recorded successful big band albums with his established band, Enoch Light And The Light Brigade, using original scores and maintaining close adherence to the original arrangements. He retired from music in 1974 and passed away on July 31, 1978, in New York City, New York, USA. Light is credited with pioneering high-quality recordings that utilized the technical capabilities of home audio equipment in the late 1950s and early 1960s, especially with stereo effects that created dynamic sound experiences.
