Eppu Normaali is a Finnish rock band hailing from Ylöjärvi, formed in 1976 by brothers Martti and Mikko "Pantse" Syrjä, their cousin Aku Syrjä, and friends Juha Torvinen and Mikko Saarela. The band made their public debut in 1977 at a rock band contest in Tampere, Finland. Although they did not achieve success in the contest, their first demo tape caught attention, leading to a recording deal and the release of their debut album in 1978. Initially playing punk rock, Eppu Normaali transitioned to new wave and later to AOR by their third album. The band enjoyed significant success throughout the 1980s, releasing nine studio albums in consecutive years from 1978 to 1986. Following a decline in album releases after their 1993 studio album, which faced challenging recording sessions and poor sales, the band reduced their live performances and did not produce new material for over a decade. After an 11-year hiatus, they made a notable comeback with their 13th studio album in 2004. Their most recent album of new material was released in 2007, and they have continued to tour regularly. In October 2025, Eppu Normaali announced their retirement as a performing band, with their final concerts scheduled for the summer of 2026, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of their founding. The band is recognized as the best-selling music artist
