Erick Cosaque (1951-2020) was a prominent master of Gwo Ka, a traditional music and cultural practice from Guadeloupe that features drums known as "ka," a form of singing called "chanté," and participatory dance. Beyond his musical talents, Cosaque served as a contemporary griot, a storyteller dedicated to the preservation, reinvention, and politicization of Afro-descendant music in the French Antilles.
