Erlkoenig is a German underground band formed around 1972 in Helmstedt, located east of Hannover near the former DDR border. Taking their name from a poem by Goethe, the band developed a unique style of classical-infused progressive music that reflects a mystical and mysterious essence. Initially starting as a trio, they added a guitarist shortly before recording their album.
