Ernest Hood was a guitarist and zither player born on June 2, 1923, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was active as a jazz guitarist in the Portland, Oregon area during the 1940s and later worked as a studio musician. Hood played alongside his brother and a saxophonist. In the 1950s, he contracted polio, which confined him to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. As he could no longer hold a guitar, he transitioned to playing the zither and contributed to some early albums of an unspecified artist.
