Ernie Hood was a talented guitarist and zither player, born on June 2, 1923, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was active as a jazz guitarist in the Portland, Oregon area during the 1940s and later worked as a studio musician. Hood played alongside his brother and a saxophonist. In the 1950s, he contracted polio, which left him wheelchair-bound for the rest of his life. As he could no longer hold a guitar, he transitioned to playing the zither and contributed his zither performances to some of the early albums of a notable artist.
