Ersen Dinleten, known professionally as Ersen, was born on July 4, 1946, in a poor neighborhood in Istanbul. He developed an early interest in music, influenced by his father, who played the violin. Ersen learned to play his father's instrument, as well as the mandolin and guitar, spending much of his childhood practicing and studying singing. He began performing Turkish folk tunes at local gatherings and wedding parties. In the late 1960s, Ersen's career took a significant turn when he met Cem Karaca, a rising star in the Turkish rock scene. Karaca offered him a chance to record, leading to the release of Ersen's first single, "Olvido — Ak Guvercin," in 1969, featuring guitar work by Unol Buyukgonenc. By 1970, he had replaced Aziz Azmet in the band Mogollar, although this collaboration was brief. Ersen then joined the Anadolu pop band Uc Hurel. His early singles had a Spanish influence, but he eventually developed a unique style that blended Turkish folk with Western progressive themes. His breakthrough came with the single "Kozan Dagi" in 1972, followed by the pivotal track "Sor Kendine." Ersen later rejoined Mogollar, played with Kardaslar, and formed the band Dadaslar, which, despite its unstable lineup, became an important part of the Anadolu pop/rock scene. Throughout the late
