Erwilian is a Seattle ensemble known for their lush combination of acoustic new age, Celtic, and world music elements. Founded in 2000 by high school English teacher Scott Melton and his student Jordan Buetow, the duo initially performed under the name Wood, Wind, and Wire before renaming themselves Erwilian in 2004. They released their first album, Renovata, in 2005, showcasing an instrumental acoustic blend influenced by folk, classical, and the more organic side of new age music. Over the years, Erwilian expanded its lineup, adding various musicians including Bethel Melton (hammered dulcimer), Robert Schuweiler (mandolin), Scott Milliron (guitar), Jeff Reed (percussion), Malcom Lee (bass, guitar), and Matt Garcia (harp, bass, guitar). After Reed's passing in 2014, the band welcomed new members John Hintze (percussion) and Keely Rendle (violin). Their collaboration with international composers Ricky Kej and Wouter Kellerman on the album Winds of Samsara garnered them international attention, culminating in a GRAMMY® Award for Best New Age Album in 2015. They continued to collaborate with Kellerman and other artists, including a children's album with Charlie Hope. Erwilian's popularity surged, leading to their 2019 EP ADVENT debuting at number one on Billboard's New Age chart and number 26 on the Independent Albums chart
