Tom Adams, known as Tommy Thumbs, emerged as a prominent DJ in Chicago's burgeoning house music scene in 1985. As the resident DJ at the Onyx nightclub on 63rd Street, he drew inspiration from local house crews like the Hot Mix 5 and Chosen Few to create his own sound. Equipped with the E.S.P. (Essential Sound Productions) soundsystem, he incorporated his background as a drummer to experiment with drum machines and synthesizers. In late 1985, he partnered with childhood friend and fellow musician Daniel Ellington to co-write the enduring house music classic, “It’s You.”
